Today - around 13H45 - MAYDAY call from a yacht reporting to be 'aground off Harwich' and 'in need of immediate assistance'.
Operator sounded very distressed/panicked.
Could only hear part of their transmission (suspect a hand-held).
Thames CG responded in a calm and professional manner, but had some difficulty in establishing name/position/type of the craft as well as the exact nature of the emergency (taking water or not?).
Lifeboat called and stood down within 10 minutes.
Yacht requested by Thames CG to report when underway/in marina.
As we were about to leave (16H00) we could hear Thames CG calling the yacht, but not getting any reply.
Anybody know what happened? Are they safe?
