I'm looking to buying a maxum 2400se fitted with the 220hp mercruiser 5 litre engine. the boat is in great condition and I'm almost ready to buy it except - when we took it out on trial - 4 adults on board - the acceleration seemed a little sluggish ( it was on the thames, so couldn't find its top speed). A lot of these boats seem to be fitted with the 260hp engine. Does anyone have any experience of this boat with either engine.

It might possibly be due to fouling of the hull etc, but if you are used to sportsboats then a pocket cruiser will take a little longer to "get up & go".
Should be fine with a 5.0L as we had a 24ft'er with a 4.3L without problem.
Have a survey then retrial it once everything is clean, it will make all the difference.

At last, a thread where I can have some input!!

Actually, all I can really do is agree with Enterprise's comment because they are spot on. Also, I find that like any engine she goes much better when used regularly. Often the first trip out after a winter layup is a bit of a trial but after a good run she's then OK for the rest of the season.

Where did you do the trial? We're based on the tidal Thames near the barrier so there's no speed limit. We've had some very quick runs.....
