I have Maxsea Version 10 and am trying to connect to bluetooth gps. The GPS is connecting fine and the Check Data Window in the Data/Input/Output Settings sections shows the NMEA feed scrolling down OK. However on the data display there is no lat/long/cog/sog data showing and the boat psoition is fixed at O deg Lat and Long. I have tried checking different boxes etc but I just can't seem to get the data showing in the window translated into boat position on the chart. Anybody have any ideas?

MaxSea is obviously not receiving/using GPS position input. You need to go to:

Menu [Utilities] : [Data Input-Output Settings] or [F4], select the boat instrument on which your GPS input is on (probably the only choice available) by single left clicking on it, select advanced settings and on the page that comes up check what NMEA sentence is selected to provide position information to MaxSea. Also check the data baud rate is set to 4800. Then go to the scrolling NMEA data input page, freeze it after the page is filled with data and check that a) the NMEA sentence MaxSea is set to use is available and b) the NMEA data word (i.e. GLL, GSA, GSV) is full of data and not just commas.

It is likely that your GPS receiver is outputing a different position word of data to that MaxSea is set to use. So look for the above 3 sentences in the data and see which word or words contain valid position data. If you make sure MaxSea is set to use this data word for position input in the above "advanced" page, then your problem should be solved. If either the above 3 position data words are not present in the data stream, or one or more is present but contains no Lat Lon position information, the problem is with your GPS or its setup to a COM port on the PC.

Been there, had the same problem. Maxsea is set up to translate the boats position course and speed from the NMEA sentence GLL or something similar. Your GPS is almost certainly outputting RMC sentence. an earlier poster has told you where to alter this, if you have any trouble, pm me and wiil assist further.

We\'ve all been here !!

Actually - I tried a Bluetooth GPS yesterday ..... it installed to Com port 17 and Maxsea 10 couldn't see it.

One of the common mistakes in Maxsea is in the listings of instruments .... Master is often NOT the GPS and you have to ADD Instrument ...... your GPS .... then knock out the master one and call your new GPS one the master ....

Fixed and many thanks to all posters. I just needed to select RMC for position. I bow to those with superior knowledge.
