Max sea v navionics

If you mean Maxsea Timezero (or the Nobeltec version, just re-branded) on the iPad, then it's pretty good. It's Raster charts ONLY, it can interface with boat systems if you have a wifi feed on board, including AIS targets.

Unfortunately though, they haven't updated the graphic elements in a while so the interface looks pixelated on latest retina iPad devices.

If you mean proper laptop-based Maxsea, then I think it's an awesome programme.

i used navionics last year and maxsea this year. (ipad) I prefer very much the maxsea raster charts which imho are betterer and have more info easily available. it swaps very well between different charts and higher details and has a nice route/passage info. the tidal function/tide heights and streams info isn't as good as navionics to me, but the ability to wifi ais data is a big plus as well. having compared the two directly using a phone version of navioinics where you are going over green bits (drying) the raster charts have more height information rather than navionics which seems to think that if it's green then you won't be going there at all.

big plus of navionics is the regular chart updates during the subscription. i can't get maxsea to update the charts during the 12 month subscription so I guess it updates annually on renewal - not necessarily a disaster but stuff like the cowes breakwater is missing at the moment (it must be close to renewal).

overall I won't renew navionics on the phone but stick with maxsea on the ipad but will obvs take care to keep an eye out for significant chart corrections esp if doing any night sailing or going to areas where I'm not familiar.

so on balance I'm a happy ipad user of maxsea and prefer it. mainly for the raster charts :)

Googling maxsea all i get are info threads.

Is there a maxsea app available or is it called time zero now.

Difficult to a) find app) b) find info about it c) find costs is it a one off plus costs for upgrades or an annual subscription.

All poor marketing IMHO.

Justconsidering it as backup on I pad. I pad has GPSbuilt in but not bought sum.

It's called Timezero nowadays, there's 2 branded versions, one from Maxsea and one from Nobeltec, but they're exactly the same and receive updates at the same time, so I believe basically the same app with two brandings.
