I have just read the biography of Maurice Griffiths (by Dick Durham). In it, there is a passing mention of a design of his called 'Loon', a centre-board 30' gaffer, built in Scotland in 1930.
In Oare Creek, Faversham, where I am based, there is a gaffer of about 30' called 'Loon', and I wonder if she is the same boat. She's double-ended, though, which doesn't seem a typical MG design. I've not had a very close look at her. Anyone know the answer?

Yes, she is the same boat. There is a full description of her in an early MG book called "Little ships and shoal waters".

She was extensively rebuilt by Alan Staley and the finishing touches added by the present owner. Very nice.

Page 110 0n to be precise!!
The book was reprinted in 1988 by Conway Maritime Press, still enjoy re reading it, I see she was designed in 1930 and to take the sands off the Northumbrian coast, owner had a preference for a Scottish type of stern, and the very large saloon with coal stove "which is so necessary aboard yachts that cruise out of season in the British Isles"!!!!!!!!!!!
