I'm getting some mould forming on the underside of the mattresses in the aft cabin which lies above the engine compartment and fuel tank. Any tips for prevention? Hard to ventilate adequately with stripping the bed every day and it doesn't seem to make much difference. It's happening at night I guess?

I thought of a plastic sheet as a vapour barrier but I wondered if it may be as bad, if not worse with it.

I'm guessing you mean mold, not mould.

That is appearing because of condensation. What you need is to raise the matress, not put a plastic sheet underneath. Either with slats or mesh.

Edit: yes, the stuff that Ripster is suggesting. It does the job well.

I think he may be English, not American, in which case he probably does mean mould.
If the suggested stuff is the black polypropylene "shredded wheat" type material, it does a fairly good job but in an aft cabin there may not be much through ventilation.
Try not to sweat so much:D

I had that for a couple of years, not impressed.

Slats from IKEA seem to work better as they allow a bigger air gap.

Which slats are they? Can you remember their IKEA name? ( you know, 'hildebilfriggen' or something similar ). I'd be interested in finding out as well.

Oh.. you must be more damp than us as it sorted ours out instantly and has been good for three years. However I can see slats working too, just a bit more hassle to fit.
