A couple of months ago I recommended Mastclimb as a simple way for a couple to get one of themselves to the top of the mast, with no effort from the other. At the time I didn't have any photos of one. The device is no longer made but would be quite cheap and easy for an amateur to make. I have now taken photos of mine, posted below.

The main tubes are inch square. The cam cleat is slightly modified by screwing in the two short rods so that it can be opened with one hand. The cleat is mounted on a plate about 4 mm thick. The padding is not original, added to stop it from scraping the mast.

In use I hoist a tight line to the masthead, running through the vertical tube. The line needs to be tight as it will relax with each movement otherwise. I then sit in bosuns chair, hoisting the mastclimb each time by the upper rod stirrups. Then stand up on the mastclimb, wife hauls in the bosuns chair line by hand, no winching required.

Hope this suffices, PM me if more needed but don't expect a rapid response, only get on wifi occasionally.

Another method is to take your ladders down to the boat......

Eere, That looks like Penryn!

Thanks for the pics. I have seen that in a very old UK chandler catalogue and it looks quite easy to make with a simple stick welder.

My have a go after I get my boat in the water.

As I write the windex is tapping me on the shoulder.

Wife lowers me down with two turns on the winch. I can either leave the mastclimb up there or disengage the cleat with one hand, then lower the fixed line from on deck.
