I would like to mount a winch on the aft face of my mast near the foot, for reefing. My last boat had this feature attached by a bracket which angled the winch drum slightly down so it was at a rightangle to the point where the reefing lines emerged from the boom. No chandlers seem to stock these brackets. Anyone know where they are obtainable or whether it was a bespoke item?

Allspars in Plymouth keep the spare Sigma 33 mast for the Southwest region which has the bracket mentioned (for the same reason mentioned). They are on 01752 266766.

Unless one is specifically madefor your march probably the cheapest solution is to make one out of cardboard and give it to a stainless fabricator to copy.

My first thought is to suggest rather that you have a turning block at the mast base and winch at the back of the cabin for working from the cockpit. However I don't know your boat or way of reefing so probably you know best .

However the rope should arrive at the winch from an angle "lower" than the winch base to (as in normal winch mount) to ensure you don't get over rides. ie not at right angles as you mention. olewill
