'Mast gate' - DIY job?

Fantastic - just what I needed for my lift-keel Sonata! Thanks for the link.

Chris.

Just to add that the fixed "gates" shown in the link to the Beneteau site are no good if you have roller reefing of the main  Then you need an easily opened gate to allow the lower slugs to exit the track.

Davegriff,
Not sure if I understand correctly, but the jack line doesn't go anywhere. It's fastened (permanently) to the top reefing cringle at the luff. Line runs down to the tack cringle where it's again fastened permanently. The slugs between are fed onto the jackline before fastening to the tack. Nothing to move or tighten. When the sail is dropped the slugs stay stacked above the sail stop. The sail snugs down on top of the mast and the jackline allows slack so it can work.
I tried to find a pic on the Internet, but I can't find one.
sam :-)
(I'm sitting in The Pussers bar in Leverick Bay in the BVi's - ain't technology wonderful! 28 deg C; 20 knots of wind. Just sailed back from Anagada in about 3 1/2 hrs)

There are solutions here to my problem, but I'd like to ask about the potential/problems in using s/s rivnuts instead of tapping the mast wall....
