Hi all,

I'm slowly wading through my outstanding issued with my big Mobo and I'm lacking a mast for my ensign. The socket has what seems a mighty 38mm internal diameter with a turn screw to tighten the mast in place, so I'm guessing a mast that's around 35mm diameter in the socket??
Can anyone recommend any reasonable supplies for a 'pole' that diameter and probably around 1m in length, to get the right sized flaggy thing..?
Thanks a lot,

Nick

For your Trader 47, I reckon you need a staff at least 125cm long. Most staffs are designed to fit a 25mm socket, but a few are larger. Jimmy Green has a Finnish staff which has a 32mm base, which you could sleeve to make it suitable for your socket.

Thanks mate. I guess as they say.. With a big lump of a boat comes a big flagpole. haha..

I was inordinately proud when my ensign was so shredded by years of wind that it had to be replaced. I followed this guidance and the boat looks properly dressed:

The ensign or national flag should be about one inch for each foot of overall length. For example, on a 40ft. boat, the ensign should be 40 in. i.e. about 3.5ft.

So a 47ft boat should be 47 inches? So just about 4ft. Is that 4ft diagonal or along the top edge? Every boat I've had before already had its ensign all sorted..

I think I can just about manage both. Being on the water AND having a nice flappy flag flag on the back. :D
Being on the water is pleasure and relaxation - we men are renowned for an inability to multitask - you have been well trained :)

I need lessons, I can only cope with the pleasure and relaxation - and am a poor learner :(

Having broken the wooden ensign staff on my 39ft yacht I bought 2m of Carbon Fibre tube from eBay and cut off the appropriate length. Works fine and looks cool too.

Ensigns are sold "by the yard" normally.
The yardage is measured across the horizontal. So your 40" would be a yard-and-a-quarter. Ish.
