I have an Edel35 catamaran and wonders if any know how the mast is joined/mounted to the foundation. This because I have observed a slight wandering of the mastfoot and wonders if this should be of concern. I believe the mast is the original mast.

I'm simply refreshing you thread before it fall s into the abyss.

YBW is not famed for its members owning multihulls. I might try another Forum whose focus is on multis, Cruisers Forum? Or an owners group.

We do own a 38' cat - we are a bit of an exception. I confess I don't know the Edel 35 - so cannot help.

Our mast, deck stepped, sits in an aluminium casting, attached to the deck, with a recess for the mast, like a well fitting saucer. The mast is deck stepped with a beam directly underneath. My view is - the mast should not move at its base.

Doubt anybody here has any experience of this boat. However looking at photos it seems to have a pretty standard base with a plug in the bottom of the mast that sirs in a socket on the deck. as Neeves says it should not move. Best to consult a professional rigger rather than asking for guesses on a forum.

Your mast base looks similar to mine, I'd suggest tightening the lower shrouds to start with and go from there.

I'm not arguing with Bigwow but

I assume the mast is supported by that cross beam which is a mast section? - or that's what it looks like.

Is that same mast section supported by 'rigging' underneath - which I am sure has a name (but I'm not familiar with it). Loading up the above deck rigging is going to stress the cross beam (if I have all of this correct) and I'd have a look at the cross beam first. If it is supported by below deck rigging, and a load bearing column, then I might tension it first.

It would help if the OP posted a picture of his cat, and we could then see the detail, and I'm interested in how much the mast moves. In Bajansailors picture, which is vaguely similar to our mast foot, there is actually no room for movement - our mast base is a snug fit.

I fear if you tighten the above deck rigging then all you will do is force down the crossbeam - which might be what has happened, its not the rigging that needs tightened but more support needed for the cross beam.

I'm clutching at straws - in the absence of knowing the yacht.
