Hi,

I'm looking to change the assortment of blocks etc at the base of my UFO 34's (keel stepped) mast with something more like what I've seen on other boats. I believe these are called mast foot organisers and on some boats I've seen what look like welded arrangements of angle iron.

Someone said you can buy these instead of make them and I've found versions by Bartons and also by Ronstan. I'd much rather buy than have made specially, but the Bartons one has too few block fittings for my needs and I can't figure out how the Ronstan one is supposed to work so I wondered if anyone here knows of an alternative source for similar hardware ?

The current mast foot is pictured below.

Thanks,

Boo2

Seldèn do a mast ring if you have one of their's, or Kemp's. A banker's bonus would be useful!

'Fraid not : spars are Proctor dating from 1994 and, sadly, I am not a banker.

Thanks for the thought,

Boo2

It looks good to me why change? If it has worked for this long is it likely to suddenly stop?

Any improvements to be made? If not why change?

Yes, I should have said but I guess you did not see my other recent threads ? I am trying to change the reefing to bring back the lines to the cockpit and it means a complete re-arrangement of all the lines. I think a mast foot organiser will be easier and more flexible than just moving the deck blocks around so hence my question.

Thanks for your interest,

I hope you have experienced a boat with the complexity of knitting you are planning and have used it in anger. The only benefit I can see is not leaving the cockpit for a couple of minutes on a bouncy day but is that really worth the hassle?

Have a look on Salty John's website - I'm looking to replace some and he seems to stock what is needed
He doesn't sell mast foot organisers ? Just blocks and rope organisers the same as every other chandler ?

But thanks anyway,

the Kemp / Selden ring will still work + swivel blocks & job done.
dont forget the upward pull on the deck head, this will need sorting from below decks. i have a solid rod from deck ring to the mast step

Have a look at the deck collar in this PDF http://www.sparcraft.com/uk/company/sparcraft_catalogue/fichiers/sparcraft10_uk_basdef.pdf
Can you use this solution? You must rig tie rods to keep the deck in place.
