I removed the rest of the rubbing strake-apologies to peterduck- I have removed all rotted wood back to the ribs- removed three fittings in iron? that I think help hold the rear mast up these have marks on them S A-SC- and one has LEY and a mark Makers? Please what is the correct term and do I can I replace in bronze?. Ps I am a young silly 65 year old and the lady is a 35' 1938 Yawl ? Pitch pine on Oak Thanks

Your description of Iron fittings that hodl the mast up is a little vague, but they sound like chainplates. These are the fittings which connect the shrouds [via riggings screws or lanyards] to the hull. initially it sounds like a good move to replace them with bronze [gunmetal]. If the fittings are in good condition you might be able to use them as patterns for the foundry to cast up the bronze ones. As these are the mizzen chainplates, what are the mainmast chainplates made of? Are they iron too? Test them with a magnet if you are in doubt. Are they in good condition, or do they need replacing too?
Peter.
