Yes its true .. global warming has officially turned the western approaches into a tropical sea. Whilst on the face of it good, the proximity to the cold north sea fed by currents from the Arctic Ocean has finally produced an explosive mixture of hot and cold. Hurricane Hilda is due to strike the western approaches on friday with consistent winds of 220mph forecast. I for one will be doubling up my mooring lines and not venturing out. A secondary depression is expected to follow behind on sunday with the highest winds yet experienced in the northern hemishere forecast at 310mph .. quite scarey really. Make sure your burgees are firmly tied on or they'll maybe blow away.

Satellite data indicate major Hurricane Hilda has continued to rapidly strengthen and the central pressure has dropped 31 mb in the past 13 hours. A pressure of 926 mb generally corresponds to a maximum wind of about 197 kt. However...the eye is open to the west and there may be a lag in the wind field. Also...dropsonde data indicated about 145 kt surface winds...but winds just a few hundred above the surface have been as high as 190 kt. The three satellite agencies reported a Dvorak satellite intensity estimate of t8.0...or 315 kt...while the 3-hour objective Dvorak T-number was also t8.0. Based on this information...the initial intensity was increased to 210 kt.

It's no good Jimi, your attempt to clear out the Solent this weekend is doomed to failure, even the local weather presenter couldn't miss a hurricane. Well, as long as their name isn't Fish...

I guess some monohull sailors live in a world of their own anyway. You have to be a bit deranged to sail half a boat....
Seriously though I think joking about the weather is a bit like prodding sleeping tigers in the eye with a sharp stick don't you?
Just like the little boy who cried wolf it will happen one day and some silly sod will think it was all a joke........
On a serious note though can you tell me the website address you picked up the Bracknell synoptic from? I can't find it and it is obviously very useful. Ta.
