Mass exodus of liveaboard boats from Turkey

Banks generally paying slightly more than that currently but depends on type of account and amount invested . It has to be held in a Turkish Lira account so the exchange rate becomes a major consideration if you do not live in Turkey. Inflation is a red herring as like all countries the bank rate tends to relate which is why some years ago you could get 20-25%+ but those days are over with the current relative strength of the Turkish economy.

Well,you must have been cruising a different part of the coast from us..

we met lots of individual yachts last year,and saw no signs of any exodus,nevertheless,you may be correct in that this coming year could see a difference.. we shall see.
Where are they all going though?

The GREEK Islands or the TRNC new marina at Karpaz Gate? Maybe?

Cesme to Marmaris and back. Messolonghi and Ragusa seem popular. Also saw many more boats on the hard in Yat Marine. Economic situation has hurt some people. Also few yachts coming up Red Sea now, a friend is shipping his boat from Thailand to Marmaris by ship. Hopefully this year will see some clarification on the new rules.

We are still waiting for the meeting on the 2nd to clarify things.

Yat Marin told us last autumn they were 35% down on last year. Many of the local service businesses are hurting, having had an awful winter

Cant think of anybody better to put the case forward. Hope for the best for the sake of our many TRurkish friends. You are in a wonderful part of a beautiful coastline.
 
OK we've had this discussion on this forum before and nobody really seems to know what the real situation is (Some may think they do). It seems now that on friday I can get a new 90/180 day visa when my normal 80 day visa expires and after that I spend over 3 months over the next 6 months elsewhere until a few weeks before the end of the visa and then get a 6 month resident tourist visa back in turkey ,
..possibly. we will try it and see.

Details of what you need to apply for a 6 month Tourist Visa from the Antalya Police Site

2. Documents required for residency permits for touristic purposes.Number 5 is an obvious problem but different areas may have different interpretations.

1. 2 x Colour Residential Statement Forms (available at Foreigners Division)
2. 4 x passport sized photographs.
3. Original passport and photocopy of the following pages: photo page, page showing the last entry to Turkey, page showing passport validity period.
4. Bank statement or foreign currency exchange certificate showing an amount to the value of 500 USD per month of required permit length.
5. Proof of residential address (if residing together with a Turkish citizen, the original and photocopy of this Turkish citizen’s identification document and a petition shows undertaking - also if the Turkish citizen giving the undertaking is married, then both spouses must give the undertaking, - or if renting, a copy of the rental contract, etc.).
6. Applications of foreigners whose visa has expired are not accepted.
7. Only one residency permit for touristic purposes is issued during any one calendar year.
8. Foreigners must apply in person for residency procedures.

So let me get this clear.....

We don't live aboard but we do spend a lot of time in Turkey. We have an annual marina contract. This year we plan to make our first visit on 24th April and we'll stay about 3 weeks. Then back home to UK and second visit 4th June, this time until 1st July. When it cools down in early September, back out for another 4 weeks.

Now getting my calculator out, 180 days from 24 April covers us until at least end September. One visa stamp would cover the first two trips and another visa stamp for the last trip.

Can someone tell me if I'm right, or would it be far simpler to get an annual residents visa every time we renew our marina contract??

At the moment we are being quoted 750 TL per person for a residents visa by Blues Yachting , including all the fees and running around... Very expensive.

180 days from and including 24 April is 19 October and as the total number of days in Turkey is less than 90 you only need the one visa.

Where are you based? Even including for the one off payment for your RP Blue Book(152TL) the total cost of a one year Residents Permit is around 320TL. Blues Yachting appear to be charging a lot of money for what is not difficult to do yourself, even the application form is in English, and takes at most a day. Clearly milking the fact that you do not want to lose a day of your visit.

Agree they are almost doubling up as agents fee... I'm happy to spend a day doing this and as we're based right in the Ece Saray marina in Fethiye. When we do the transit log, most of the offices are already very near the marina.. We already have bank account and tax card so if the forms are in English no reason we can't do it ourselves.
