Martec folding props

Hmm, I hope I don't sound stupid but isn't the second prop a Martec folding prop too? Because if not then are you sure you want to install a different prop?

Don't think you will find much experience of these props this side of the Atlantic. Seems the gear type folder has been discontinued and replaced by an imported Slipstream which is a different animal. The non geared type does seem cheap - but then is very crude compared with geared types. If you have Saildrives the cheap one does not fit.

FlexoFold are worth looking at and are available in 2 or 3 blade for both shaft and saildrive.

IIRC Martec props aren't geared, so if not perfectly clean, the blades either don't open equally or if not perfectly aligned a blade will drop open whilst sailing slowly.

The one I have left is Slipstream - bloody expensive! I figure I can use another type instead of the missing one. Thanks, anyway. Miki
Hardly surprising that it is expensive because it is in a different league from the one you are suggesting! Think you will find the FlexoFold is cheaper than the Slipstream and outperforms most other folding propellers. No connection - just a satisfied user who did a lot of research before i chose one and it lived up to the claims.

spare sail drive folding prop!!

I lost one of my folding props (it's a cat, obviously) and am looking for a replacement. Does anybody have experience with Martec folding props? they seem to be relatively cheap but are they any good?
Cheers,
Miki "Two Oceans"

Last year on our cat, my port VP folding prop attached to the volvo saildrive/VP 2020 stopped having a gear mesch due to corrosion and /or wear and a terrible vibration ensued. The solution for us was a new set of felxofolds. Yes a thinner wallet as well. However, gained a knot at same throttle setting, so I am a happy camper. The flexofolds are a better piece of engineering and have zincs on the props plus the zinc on the saildrive collar.
But more to the point, I have a spare but well used VP folding prop for a VP sail drive. (and a hub for a second prop with the now worn out blade set). Our cat was launched in 1998, so the original vp props are far from pristine.

Let me know if you are interested. " Half Moon" is an Endeavour 36, sailing around the Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis, MD. Getting ready for a run up the East coast towards Block Island in July.

Fair winds, Bill
