According to locals, his first point of arrival was shedloads of different places from florida to Colombia. I had a sextant for several years, plastic, but decent plastic. I gave it away eventually; it wasn't a lot of use anywhere anyone with sense would take a Snapdragon.
If I were to do a transat, that's what GPS is for. If the GPS fails, I'll carry on the way Columbus did it - head west until I sight land. At least I'd be able to ask someone where I was![]()
