Once you have braved to terrors of the Thames and have arrived at St Kats a few things worth considering are,
Visit Wapping High St.

Absolutely visit the captain kidd pub! Great place, with very very cheap quality beer right on the river bank.

Several interesting pubs doing decent pub grub within 20 mins of dock.

Avoid the riverside cafe. I've been there a lot, given them so many chances, but the food is always dire.

Il bordello resturant at end of high st.
Decent supermarket just outside of east of dock.

There are now a few restaurants around the docks. From italian to dim sum, via indian. There's loads to choose from. The supermarket is Waitrose. It is true what people say, their fresh meat is good and worth the premium, but I begrudge paying double the price of things that cannot possibly be better quality than Tesco, like heinz baked beans.

Nice little cafe opposite west dock for cheap breakfasts/coffee etc

Ah, I presume you mean the riverside here. Well, each to there own, but it's now a rare thing for me to suffer that place. Service is excellent, but the chefs are all in the back listening to euro techno music and not paying attention to what they do.
I live right next to St Kat's by the way, hence knowing what it's like. I'm still waiting for that first time I get to put my boat through the lock. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
