Advise please. I inherited a roll of 10mm marlow Kevlar rope with my new boat. I have about 45 metres and would like to sell it to help fund other boat improvements. My question is who is most likely to use this quality rope. I know it is very expensive stuff and want to get the most I can for it. Im thinking of Ebay but may be better putting it on a specialist racing site or the like. Any suggestions welcomed.

E-Bay. It's amazing how much people are prepared to pay for some things. If you are concerned that it may not fetch a price that you have in mind you can always put a reserve on it.

I just bought 80 meters of 20mm anchorplait for 20 quid, that seller didn't do so well! Oh and it included a drough, chain and a couple of good shackles.

Ian,

Kevlar rope was all the rage in the 1980's with the racing boys (me included!), as it was very much stronger and lighter than ordinary multiplait, so thin lines could be used as an alternative to wire halyards.

However, Kevlar didn't like being repeatedly 'bent' around sheaves and would eventually go 'bang' without warning, even though the outer jacket looked OK.

It was replaced in 90's by Dyneema , which is much more reliable.

Sorry to pour cold water. Are you sure it's Kevlar? It will have a light brown core. Dyneema core is white.

It has the light brown core as you suggest. Have reached the conclusion that i might as well hang onto it. Worth more to me when I need to replace my halyards than I would get for it now.
