Marking annoying rocks

Ask Graham at Arisaig - i do like his perch on the way in

Coffin rock in L Sween has been tried twice (at least) winter's gales did for them both

Blowing up rocks is not easy. If you are not familiar with the story, it is worth reading about the attempts to blow up Ripple Rock in Seymour Narrows, near Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The final (successful) attempt in 1958 took some 1400 tons of explosive and was televised live.

If you're serious, have little engineering skills, and don't wish the paperwork or liability problems, could you set up transits? 4 or 6 cairns, painted white, are a lovely little luxury, god bless all the nameless ones who trudge about the midges with hoes and paint pots maintaining the current ones. You could even set them with solar powered lights.

Once had a lovely trip into Loch Tarbert, Jura, see Clyde Cruising Club Sailing Directions, a trip impassable without the unofficial transit marks.

"Coffin Rock?" I've known it as the "Coffee Rock" since early seventies as I was told it looked like a coffee bean!

CCC already supply and fit perches and unless I have been imagining things is there already a perch on the cliet rock or has it been carried away by a local motorsailor. Again.
Mccormaig Isles had a nasty rock blown up which was a pity as almost everyone knew where it was. Now there are at least three to watch out for. That's progress

It was there the week before last. Offhand the CCC perches I can think of are that one, the one in the middle of the shallow bit at Easdale, and the one at the entrance to Ardinamir. Are there (still any) others?

I believe that GSS fitted the north cardinal perch at Woodfarm rock on behalf of the CCC. They (CCC) also maintain the perch north of Balmore Island.

I like the idea of tunnelling under the water and then up into the rock. Maybe the Cleit Rock tunnel could start in the cellar of the Tigh an Truish.

Buy a round for Steve McQueen and his pals and they'll dig it for you. Just make sure they get the distance measurement correct or the bar will get flooded out by inrushing Cuan Sound!
