Marked Diesel

Roundstone has a filling station within easy walking distance (200m) of the pier.
Sligo 500 metres walk, Killybegs 1 km walk to the filling station.

That'll be fun when you need 2000 ltrs for your Gin palace.

What colour is the diesel in Northern Ireland as I assume the law there is the same as here with the 60/40 split? Unless it's not!

Red. In Bangor last month they were doing the usual split with red, and with 0% FAME. When enquired they said still continuing as normal until HMRC say otherwise.

At Sligo this summer, we had diesel by hose from a road tanker at the pontoon. Admittedly, we made the 500m walk to the fuel station to ask the tanker to call.

So basically big places are changing at least some pumps to white diesel and in smaller places the market will supply, by tanker, bowser or can. All of which could have been the case in Britain years ago if we'd bothered.

I"m only worried about Diesel "contaminated" with Ethanol (Bio-Diesel).

Indeed, losing access to FAME free diesel is more of a concern to me than the loss of the bizarre tax concession.
No decisions yet in the U.K. - as HMRC and other civil servants busy with Bxxxx matters (so action may be delayed, but don’t expect they will give up on this even if we leave).

I had a delivery by road tanker to our yacht at Killybegs "town" pier. It worked out perfectly well, though the hose was close to fire-hose dimensions. They were quite happy delivering about 100l. It is a serious walk to the filling station from there. We have ferried diesel on bicycles in some places before. What a palaver that is....

But many (all?) of their base engines are Kubota. Presumably these are in use all over the world in various plant/vehicles etc. with all sorts of varieties of fuel, including bio-diesel.

Good point in some ways, plant will be using low sulphur fuel with bio, same as white diesel. But, will it all be sitting around in the tanks for months like boat fuel ? I suppose some of it will, of Farmer Giles parks his combine arvester up at the end of season it's going to sit there for months with bio in the tanks.

Be interesting to see what the long term affects of bio in Derv are.

Quite correct, but that's what they stipulate for my new (Kubota based) Beta 43 to qualify for its guarantee. This rule may, or may not, be evidence that bio, FAME etc can damage engines. How would I know one way or the other?

I have the book handy, 7% now. Presumably we are the guinea pigs!

Quote: "Most diesel fuels contain up to a maximum limit of 7% of Biodiesel and this does not affect the engine warranty. Recent changes to specifications allow the addition of FAME Biodiesel EN14214:2009 to diesel... " Unquote.

It goes on to say bio gives more risk of bacteria, etc, and an interesting stipulation:

" If you use a higher percentage of Biofiesel, the fuel filter and oil filter must BOTH be changed together when the oil filter would normally be replaced" I don't know why that would be?
