Mark Proudfoot aka Magnum RIP

Re: Magnum RIP

Bloody hell. Never met the guy in person but had some conversations by email and he seemed a nice guy, obviously passionate about his boats and lived life to the full.

Condolences to Claire and his family.

Re: Magnum RIP

Sad news. Condolences to his family. Enjoyed many of his posts over the years. Hard to believe it had to end so early.

Re: Magnum RIP

This is truly dreadful news. We met Mark and his family a few times whilst we were based in Majorca and enjoyed their company greatly. Mark loved his boating and lived his boating life to the full. Sincere condolences to Claire and their family from myself and my wife

Re: Magnum RIP

What a shock. We spent many enjoyable evenings with Mark and Claire during their time in Antibes, and downed more bottles of rose than i care to remember. He was a smart guy, and built up a very succesful business, and having sold it he certainly lived life to the full, with boating being a big part of it. It’s tragic that his young daughter will grow up without a father, and I can’t begin to imagine what Claire is going through. Our thoughts are with her and the rest of his family

Re: Magnum RIP

Very sad
Mark was very helpful when we were buying our P67.
Having had one before, he was willing to help us through our experience.
As a result, we had many telephone conversations and he gave me lots of ideas.

We took delivery about the same time as his Predator so we were able to meet him at the end of his delivery trip to Torquay.

I'm sure that I speak for all when I say that we will miss him.

Re: Magnum RIP

This news has just reached me. I don’t frequent the forum much these days, but hearing this news has bought me back. I was involved with Mark and Claire when they were buying their Cougar rib and took them on sea trials. It just goes to show that life is not a rehearsal and he was so young. My thoughts and condolences go to Claire and the family.

Saying that, Mark enjoyed his boats and lived life to the full. RIP Mark.

Re: Magnum RIP

I opened this thread just out of curiosity, assuming that it couldn't be really about what the title suggested.
It is shocking to understand that it is, instead.
I only exchanged a few emails with Mark about where to stay in Sardinia when he was planning to cruise to Tunisia, back in his Predator days, but unfortunately we didn't manage to meet in that occasion - and neither later on.
He always came across as a passionate and straightforward guy, though.
My sincere condolences to his family.

Re: Magnum RIP

Shocking news, just as he was starting the next chapter of his life with a new baby and new boat. Condolonces to the family.

Re: Magnum RIP

Indeed this is desperately sad. Condolences to Mark's wife Claire and Mark's 3 children. I've swapped messages with Claire and while she is a strong person she is devastated by this. The funeral is in Jersey immediately after Easter weekend.

John, perhaps when the time is right you can send Claire a link to this thread.

Re: Magnum RIP

Only just noticed the thread and was not expecting this. Only PM'ed Mark a few times when he was buying his Bordeax 60. It was obvious from the forum that he enjoyed life to the fullest and was happy to dive into sailing at the deep end. Condolences to the family.

Re: Magnum RIP

Oh dear Oh dear
Never met the Gentleman except for on here
This Place and People 'get' to you in some way though
Met lots of people through Here physically and through a keyboard
Magnum (Mark) came across as a True Gent
His Posts were always good and interesting and made good reading
As MapisM said He came across as so passionate and straightforward
Sad, very sad but like Solitaire said Mark enjoyed His boats etc
Yes, like others I exchanged PM's with the Gent
Usually daft banter which is my (and His bent!) manner
Miss you my internet friend
Claire, thinking about you and him, condolences

Re: Magnum RIP

What terrible and shocking news.

Like many other people on the forum you read posts, swap words and feel an affinity towards each other that goes beyond what outsiders might consider the norm. Whether its the feeling people are living your dream, sharing your disaster or indeed living their boating disaster so you might avoid a similar fate. We brushed past Mark one day on the river Medina - not in the literal sense I hasten to add and I have read his posts with much interest.

I can only begin to imagine the immense pain being felt at the moment and sense of unfairness with the world. One of the often overlooked aspects of boating is that it creates memories which last beyond a lifetime. Wrap yourself up in those happy memories even though at the moment they might temporarily add to the pain. A few tears and then suddenly you find yourself smiling again when you remember those little quirks which makes a person who they are. As time passes the moments of pain subside and the positive memories grow.

Re: Magnum RIP

Like others I opened this thread expecting to read the P68 had been sold, such terrible news. It was always a treat to read the exploits of buying and delivering the P68 and I was looking forward to reading about the new 75. My sincere condolences to his family.
