Sad news... Mark Funnell MD of Hardy Marine based at North Walsham collapsed and died at work yesterday morning aged 49.
Since taking over Hardys he had built the business up and many fine boats in the process.... he was working on their largest, a new 60ft vessel destined for Russia ,and had been in discussions with the designer that morning.

I was shocked when I returned to work yesterday as spent quite a bit of time with him at sibs, said goodbye Monday afternoon as I left Southampton. He will be missed by all who know him.

Tragedy

chatted to him at SIBS...I was trying to persuade him to build 4 Hardy Mariners.... that I would help sell..... very sad indeed, certainly too young.

I met Mark several times, wonderful larger than life character with a real love of his boats. Spent all the hardy owners meetings in the bilges of one boat or another - when he wasn't accidentally falling down open engine hatches. I first spoke to him on the phone when I had a query about my Hardy 36 and the switchboard put me through. I had no idea I was speaking to the owner, thought he was a technician, very helpful. James, every time we see a Mariner we said the same as you, in this market they would sell like a dream.

My condolences to his family and all at Hardy

Very sad news, met him in SPP 3 years ago on a Hardy rally, never to be forgotten. A few of my friends with Hardy 50s will certainly miss his advice. His firm produced exceptional boats.

Very sad news indeed. Saw him at the show but we only managed to say hello as he was with a customer. Love his boats, especially the 42. Condolences to his family.

Very sad, I couldn't quite believe what I was reading, we had several meetings and a long talk at the show as he's been trialling our products. A great person to deal with, and one of the builders I had a lot of respect for, in what he had achieved and his high standards of build with a true hands on approach. It was always a pleasure to talk boats and engineering with him and my condolences go to his family and friends, a sad loss.

My wife and I met him, she was impressed with the hardy product , how traditional it was but giving a practical feel to a boat, I've worked on a few of the hardy range in past years a great boat.

What a sad loss, my thoughts go out to his family and friends.
