Marinising a Ford Diesel

I am considering fitting a Ford 1800 diesel engine to my Hallberg P28. Has anyone got experience of marinising such an engine (or similar), such details as source of parts and instructions and maybe approximate costs would be appreciated.

they do the complete kit, but you'll need to source your own stainless bolts.

have you considered the 1600 diesel as some prefer it for reliability and smoothness... just wondered... Oh! and allow about £1000.

I've got a ford 1800 diesel in a fiesta van, good runner, van knackered soon as mot runs out, whole lot yours for 200 quid.

ASAPs are the best for marinising

go to www.asap-supplies.co.uk and click on special offers as i think they are doing a offer on the heat exchanger manifold at the moment :)

The 1600 is definately smoother, quieter, and alot more reliable (less rubber belts) though and alot less thirsty although only 5hp less powerful

Expect about £1100 to marinise depending on whether you use yr existing gearbox or not.

What are the extra belts for on the 1800? 1600 apparently discontinued at about "F reg" on cars so may want to consider the more recent 1800 for that reason. 1800 injector pump apparently controlled by the electronic module (latest common rail version) so not clear why there are more. I thought that the latest common rail 1800 diesel has cam shaft belt and pump chain (plus alternator drive of course).

Converted a 1600 with bits from Marine Mart, no problem with the kit except getting some long bolts for the forward engine mounts.

They both have 2 belts. The usual cam belt and a pump drive belt. Theres no chains driving the fuel pump.

The 1600 does not have a belt to drive the fuel pump. the fuel pump is gear driven from the crankshaft and a belt goes from the fuel pump to drive the camshaft hence only one belt plus the vee belt for the alternator
