For years Marineseal 033 has been my goto product for bedding fittings etc. I have just found out it has been discontinued.
While there are any number of gun or tube applied sealants which are fine and dandy in their place, I REALLY like the convenience, ease of use and above all non-messiness of a two part kneadable putty which cures positively to a medium modulus “rubber”. You can make it stick to things when you want it to, but it doesn’t stick to everything in sight like Sikaflex etc. Also in practice it had a VERY long shelf life and very low wastage.

So, does anyone know of any other kneadable putties with comparable characteristics?

Cheers,
Alan.

Thanks. I’m happy with non setting mastic for some things, but sometimes I feel you really need the solid gasket that a curing elastomer creates.

Hi I spoke to Eagle WIndows regarding a kit that they used do for aluminium window refurbishment (which features in a how to that PBO published Resealing Boat WIndows ) and they told me it was Marineseal, so I was disappointed too to find out it had been discontinued. All my aluminium windows are off the boat and some are in bits, and I'm hoping for a recommendation too for bedding the glazing, the window frames will be bedded with Arbomast BR as per the link

Pvc foam tape or butyl tape. Far less messy than arbomast but equally effective, if not better.
My favorite for virtually everything is pvc foam tape, a double sided, high density, closed cell, fully crushable ,gap filling PVC foam with a pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive on both sides, and its uv resistant
You stick it around your frame (chainplate, hatch, stanchion base etc) spray it with soapy water allowing you to place it against the cabin side and slide it into position. Its instant stick if you don't soap it and you can't pull it off without destroying the tape and having to start again.
Foam tapes are in every conceivable industry sector such as aerospace, automotive, glass & glazing, electronics, building & construction and medical to name just a few.
I even used it to seal the clear acrylic inspection hatch on my fuel.
I use the butyl tape where the pvc tape won't fit/work.

The butyl tape from toolstation is a 50mm wide 10 meter roll. It can be rolled up and manipulated . I would like it to bluetack consistency, but a lot more stretchy and sticky.
If your frames are in two halves could you not fill the gap with the butyl then push the glass into it, maybe with the aid of a clamp. It's really easy to cut off the excess and peel it off.
Linseed putty would dry out and leak. There is a butyl putty that's used on double glazed units in wood, but again I don't think it's suitable.
There is a tube sealant that's for bonding polycarbonate or acrylic into the aluminium frames but it's extremely difficult to squirt out of a silicon gun and very messy.

So I missed a post on the Eagle Windows website that said they no longer recommend Marine Seal 033 but rather a silicone sealant. (They mention, it shrinks and cracks with age - although I hear it’s good for 10-20
years !) The most recommended stuff is Corning 795 but that is a US product. It’s a “one-component, neutral-curing, medium modulus silicone sealant” and the nearest thing I can find is “Geocel/Dow Corning Marine Silicone Rubber Sealant” but it’s a high modulus.. the massive pain removing the glass from the frames when the PO has used Sikaflex means I’ll keep looking for a medium modulus sealant..
