Mariner Outboard & Quicksilver Throttle Control

Hi

Just been geting to grips with a fairly new project!

I have a 40hp 2-stroke Mariner Outboard (1990?) connected to a Quicksilver Control. The engine starts fine however, I am getting a continuous beep from the ignition whilst the engine is running? First indication was an overheat however, the water cooler is expelling a steady jet out and I get the beep when the engine first starts from cold so not convinced its an overheat issue?

Anyone know what the issue could be please and any guidance of how to troubleshoot/fix?

Could it be a faulty sensor, if so how to replace?

The first thing to do is to check the overheat sensor. I assume it's a temperature switch that closes when too hot therefore disconnect it to see if the alarm stops

Also check the wiring for shorts

Would you (or anyone) be able to give any info as to where its located (on the control unit?) or what wire(s) I need to disconnect please?

I was thinking of disconnecting the wire from the temperature sensor on the power head.

Would you know which wire to disconnect to check, there are several (not inc +/-) green, brown, blue??

locate the temperature sensor on the cylinder head trace the wire ( possibly tan/lightblue) back to where its connected. Also check that this wire is not shorting to ground anywhere

If I disconnect the beep stops! The water pumping out seems cold and as mentioned the beep starts as soon as the engine is started, so do you think its a faulty sensor or whats the next stage to test?

If it bleeps with a cold engine, but stops bleeping if you disconnect the sensor then the sensor must be faulty. Fit a new sensor and the problem should be sorted.
