Hi, wonder if you can help?

I’m looking for a high thrust prop for my Mariner F6M. I read that this unit is actually a Tohatsu MFS6D. Could anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

Propellers are most often shared between motor brands and Tohatsu would be same prop. However this might not be very relevant when looking for a prop.
Once you know the propeller you want, a search will reveal several makes and models to fit all compatible motor makes and models.
A quick search on e.g. eBay or Amazon will demonstrate this.
Sail Pro High Thrust 6" Pitch Propeller for Mercury Mariner 4HP 5HP 6HP Outboard | eBay

I'd normally recommend a prop from a well known brand to ensure best performance in holde shot, grip in turns, surface piercing, top speed, pulling water toys etc. but that hardly is imporant for your needs.

You'd consider if the prop should be aluminum or plastic and, ideally, the pitch - the diameter will be given. Mariner states that available pitch range is 6-9" for this outboard. High thrust props holds well in the water and as you want to acchieve the max. recommended rpm at WOT (5000-6000), the pitch need to allow this.

Thanks for the info.

I think I could reduce my line of enquiry down further.

Is the Mariner part 48-812951A02 the same the Tohatsu part 399B64512-1 ?

8 3/8” diameter, 6” pitch, 12 spline.

We had a 6hp Tohatsu and found that it was really an 8hp one which had been downrated. Bought a new cheap carburettor off eBay and changed it back to an 8hp.

To answer my own question, they are the same prop. There’s variability in the price, dependant on retailer (<£100). Generally the Tohatsu is quite a bit cheaper.

Might be (I doubt) of use to someone.
