Here I am again asking for more advice, I bought a Mercury propeller an after market one I believe it has 13 splines the same as mine but maybe a different pitch, what I would like to know is are they meant to be tight when you replace them as the one I had taken off was quite easy to remove in fact I would say very easy, now when I went to put the relacement on it was very tight! so tight!! I would have had to put some force into putting it on ( tapping with a block and hammer ), can someone tell me if this normal please before I go any further. Regards Jay Jay

I think "tight" is ok with a bit of lithium grease applied to the splines with gentle tapping with block.
You still want the castle nut to have some "give" so as it doesn't push too hard and damage the other side of the prop.

I would say un-normal. I sometimes have to tap the prop off my Honda 30 but after cleaning it slides back on.
