Hi,
I have just purchased a Mariner 30 ELO outboard can somebody identify the container bolted to the engine, I suspect its a 2 stroke oil bottle.
Whatever it is it has been disconnected, where do the wires go?
Regards, Barry

The wires are probably for low oil warning. Many chose to not use oil injection and premix the fuel.

Agree with above. It’s most likely the case that the oil injection system has been bypassed and it’s now pre mix oil in the fuel. Hopefully it’s had oil mixed in the fuel since.

I would imagine if you had a helm position with remotes then the oil tank wires would connect via a wiring loom to a buzzer or light in or by the remotes.
If tiller steered then your more likely to keep an eye on oil level so no buzzer.
Any failure of the oil tank such as pipe blockage or valve failure leads to a seized engine.
Can't go wrong premixing the fuel.

Agree. But can only imagine it’s been disconnected after it’s went pre mix at some point. Worry currently might be that current owner isn’t aware of it and not pre mixing ?
