marine ventures ceases trading

Well !!!
As you say lots to digest on this one! Thanks for your help, you obviously, like myself, did some research ! I understand the basics but I am leaving the detail to the legal chaps.

Interesting news in today from one of their customers who was concerned as he had just purchased a boat from them and part of the deal included delivery to Spain in the spring (it's in the U.K. at present). He has been told by Duncan Bain's son that Marine Ventures (CI) ltd will pay the costs. They also told him my cheque was posted yesterday, not here today, but I live in hope!

Jeanneau are not too pleased about the situation as you can imagine and I think they will apply some pressure where they can, after all the CI company is also Jeanneau dealers and that gives them leverage if they want to use it.

Comments on behalf of Marine Ventures Poole in response to a posting from Meridian Ya

- There is absolutely no connection between Southern Motorboats and the directors and shareholders of Marine Ventures (Poole) Ltd
- Marine Ventures(Poole) Ltd has not been sold and no such announcement has been made by the company. Certain office assets have been sold and the lease assigned to a totally unconnected company
- The Portland and Guernsey offices have not been affected and existing customer orders are being fulfilled with Jeanneau’s cooperation
- On December 31st trade creditors numbered ten with a value of approximately £15,000 and these were paid off by the 14th January so at the time of this posting there are no known trade creditors
- The company, and its associated companies, have a significant debtor book, sufficient stock, with a forward order book and will continue to trade at offices other than Poole, and it continues with its existing franchises.
- The posting last week stated that the creditors of Marine Ventures (Poole) Ltd had been left ‘high and dry’. This is a simply not true and we would ask that such claims are ceased as these are not only potentially damaging to business but worrying for those working for and with the company.

Sea Ventures

I see that Marine Ventures are/were Jeanneau dealers.
Can anyone confirm that there is absolutely no connection with the other Jeanneau dealer Sea Ventures--a company from whom I am considering buying a brokerage vessel in the near future.
Cheers

Not that I want to be accused of spreading rumours, but I am fairly sure Sea Ventures went bust last year anyway...

Then you are wrong. Sea Ventures sold my boat last month and very efficient they were too. I believe they had some problems a year or so back but continued trading. I had an e-mail from them just yesterday with their regular news update and offers and they are still offering new Jeanneaus, I think they were even at LIBS.

Ah, so I was correct. Sea Ventures (Aquador and Jeanneau Dealer) did indeed go bust in 2008, showing as Liquidated through Comapnies House

Sea Ventures (UK) Ltd started around the same time, so i am guessing a Phoenix from the defunct company. The logo looks very similar, and it is interesting that Sea Ventures (UK) state that they have been dealers for Aquador, when in fact that was probably Sea Ventures Ltd.

All very interesting. it still amazes me that a company can close, wiping out all its debts and the directors are free to start again, with the same logo, using the old company history without any penalty. The world of free commerce I guess....
