Does anyone know of a Wirral/Liverpool supplier of marine ply for a a replacement dinghy foredeck? One sheet of 4 or 5 MM required. The big name suppliers are in the south and one sheet for £40 has delivery of £20. Googling suggests that most plys labelled as marine delaminate instantly. Has anyone found anything more appropriate? Has anyone used ply from the builders merchants, Beers/Jewsens/TravisPerkins? Many thanks

I maybe am not much help to you because Australia probably has different names for plywood.

If something was structural on my yacht I used good quality "marine ply" and it had to state "Made to an Australian Standard AS XXX)
If it was non-structural I used "Form ply", "Construction ply" and "Exterior Quality Ply" because the glue they use is the same as marine ply but the timber could be knotted and if one side had holes because of knots they filled it with putty. This sort of ply was perfectly good for floors and joinery.

Interior ply is of no use at all on a boat.

I had a similar problem when rebuilding a Heron dinghy some time ago. I eventually found a co-operative narrow boat builder who sold me some sheets and off cuts at a very reasonable price. Plenty around my home near Northwich, Middlewich and Nantwich dont know if there are any nearer you? Ellesmere Port?

I used a couple of full sheets of 18mm Marine Ply to re-enforce a bulkhead. This appeared to comply with lack of voids, continuous laminations, thickness of laminates etc as well as glue spec. This was specified as Eucalyptus ply. I have left small off cuts outside and mostly wet and they have all remained laminated ok for about 18months now. This was from Atlantic Timber in Altrincham, a little out of your area but a look at their website may show the makers brand for their marine ply and other more local suppliers.
I once used marine ply from Jewsons and it was rubbish-it had voids and rapidly became delaminated after only a few weeks outdoors. It was not cheap either.

Some years back now but I bought some 12mm marine ply from Booker Timber in Ellesmere Port. Hod to order it in from them (took a day or so to arrive) but they were very helpful. I had to buy a full sheet when I could have made do with a smaller piece but that's to be expected. They happily cut it down to size for me and helped me get the resulting pieces into the car. Website http://www.bookertimber.co.uk/Plywood_Cutting/marine-plywood.html . IIRC, you need to give them a call to order the sheet rather than on line. Their warehouse is just off the M53 near the Vauxhall motors plant.

I've used Booker before for other wood and they were very helpful, I'll give them a go. Thanks for the suggestions.

I bought 3 sheets of marine ply from Travis perkins a few years back. I had a carpenter friend make some seats, they literally delaminate overnight, well they off cuts did and the seats followed a few days later. TP guy came to look and he was very defensive, cut a long story short they replaced the ply after threats of legal action from me. A place in Bristol, browns I think sent 3 perfect sheets about a month later, still had to pay for the chippy work again.
