Marine paint for (non-marine) extrerior wood?

Re: Time hasn\'t proved to be on your side on that one me old son.......

For what it's worth I'm with Steve on this- in my case all the timber on the conservatory was soaked as much as possible with Dulux preservative primer (it's blue/green colour to prove i'm not making this up!), with the posts left soaking in a bucket for several days! Then used weathershield undercoat (2 coats) and at least 3 coats of top-coat (satin to be specific) to start. Then it's been recoated every 2 years over the last 5. I think all reasonable steps were taken as it wasn't a cheap project so I wasn't going to scrimp here. When the paint blisters were scraped off it took the undercoats with it, back to bare wood.

I can't comment on Dulux being the best as I haven't tried the competition (until now!), but if something doesn't work to your satisfaction you seek advice and move on. I suppose on the positive side for Dulux at least only area has gone rotten and the rest is fine (unless there are more hidden problems)!

The three steps are all Weathershield products and should be used together.......... like on my boat and many others on here who all seem to swear by it.

Strange how some can use it and others seem to struggle.... Me old son!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
