Hi - can anyone tell me what the Castrol grease was called that used to smell of toffee?
(And why did it smell of toffee..?)

Cheers

No, I remember it but have not seen it for years.

I gather that even Duckham's Keenol is now a thing of the past (just handed over my last pot but one to a friend to grease the springs of his Riley 9 with!)

They still do Keenol in Norris Marine at Isleworth and at Sillette Sonic.

I just met a nice chap who blends brews for specialist (not marine) applications. I asked to see if it was possible to get some more mixed up as a one-off, just for fun, as it were. But if I can't tell him what it was called, he can't look up the formula.

I had a big 5 gal tin, but used it all up re-greasing a leaky sterngland every couple of hours on the way home from Ireland last year. I didn't realise it was so hard to come by, otherwise I'd have just left the bilge pumps running...

Was it Heavy water pump grease? Looks a bit like Virol - if you're that old.

If you don't get any joy elsewhere try Morris oils, they do "proper" Lubes as well as modern ones, and the have a stockist (non-marine) in the Chichester area.

As seen on Channel 4's Salvage Squad this year (irrelevant).
