Hello all,

I'm new to yacht ownership, and have found the experience of getting professional work done on my boat very frustrating.

Is it unrealistic to hope to use a marine engineer who can be booked in for a specific day to get work done? I've been let down by one, who despite the work being booked in January, decided in late April that they couldn't do the work after all. The next one has done a good job, but has required loads of chasing and cajoling.

I'd appreciate anyone's recommendations for someone in Essex who might just do the work when they say they will !

Thanks,

Giles

Try Andy 07966427933 he has looked after my last 3 boats, very reliable and good, also reasonably priced. Based in rochford but will attend most of Essex

Possibly not completely unrealistic, but you might want to allow yourself a few years to work through the dross to track em' down though!

This is a problem that seems endemic. Tradesmen of all types seem to not want to quote, turn up, keep their promises or even show interest. I with I could get away with that!

I've experienced this with grp repairs, engine servicing and rigging services. Is a degree of common courtesy, diary organisation and honesty too much to ask?

I think that pretty much nails the problem! It is common courtesy to communicate with the people who are paying you. I find it exasperating that tradesmen don't do this.

We had some building work done a few years ago. The main builder chappie told me the electrician was "coming tomorrow". So I spent the evening moving all sorts of crap around so the electrician could do his thing. It turned out that the electrician was indeed "coming tomorrow" - but had no intention of doing any work, and left after 30 mins. It shouldn't be this way.
