can anyone recommend the services of a good marine engineer, I have purchased my first boat, which has an old Volvo Penta MD7A 13hp engine from 1977, which is still going strong or so I am told! the previous owners husband was meticulous with looking after the engine, however he has sadly passed away. I am looking to get it fully serviced and a once over, but also shadow the engineer while he does the work (covid distancing ) to learn how to service these older engines so hopefully I can get a few seasons out of her before a re-engine. The boat is on the hard at Marchwood Yacht Club does anyone know and can recommend a good marine engineer, thank you.

When I first started sailing you learnt how to do things from books, now we have the internet surely you could look on a few utube videos for what is a simple task and learn about your engine that way.

Hi Pete, I agree and I have been reading books on engines, but its hard to find any videos on youtube for the MD7A as its such an old engine, plus the engine has not been started in two seasons now, so would like to get it the once over by an engineer, before I try and fire things up. its harder as the previous owner to work on the engine has passed away so not sure what he has done and has not done with it. hence for my piece of mind I would prefer to shadow an engineer for its first service then I will take it from there, also helps me get a better idea should I breakdown at sea ! I am confident to change oil, and filters for fuel and oil, and the impeller but would not have a clue about things like is it firing right and what smoke is coming out hence the engineer.
