Hi Everyone.

I'd just like to know where you all go to get 'leccy faults and refits/mods done? I keep being told that marine electricians are hard to come by, but I don't seem to be getting any work despite good feedback when I do, to the point where I'm thinking of going and getting a regular job building aeroplanes again.

Where should I be advertising so you know about me? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Any ideas? Any Jobs? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tony.

Thanks Ian. Getting right on it...

Although based up in north wales, well if the job is right I'm on my bike... or my wife's MGB.
I'm just surprised at the lack of interest, given some of the urban myths that fly round these forums over electrics...

BTW using my own profile now - wife banned me from hers /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't have a problem advertising, it's just that I have a couple of times already and the website is up, but there was no response at all, short of the odd idiot who wanted a complete rewire for 50 quid. I was getting to the point where I thought you guys didn't need electrical engineers and I wasn't going to throw more good money after bad, so to speak...

But thanks for your replies.

Try putting a card on the board in the marina, or going round the boats on a week-end introducing yourself

Considering I started this, I agree with Philip. There's going to be an awful ot of upset companies who pay to advertise but there is a need for some sort of directory listing. Recently we wanted (and still want) a good joiner/fitter to do a whole bunch of work on our boat. After looking at it for a bit and having chat (including giving us prices for bits) he was going to work out at 1500 quid a week labour (after saying "i'll do you a good price, mate"), so now we are looking for someone else.

Adverts are transient and therefore a listing of all those who offer services should be available, even if a small fee from the companies themselves is payable to stop joe bloggs down the road who's good with a car alternator from wiring up your boat.

And of course, if I advertise in the mag, and you miss that months, you'll never know about me. Bummer isn't it? Also what about the people who never buy 'em?

Am I rocking the boat? Sorry, too much cider already.

So how do we get YBW to set up such an interactive map?

And do Marty and I get a royalty from the idea? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Editorial / Advertorial

Owners associations are rich picking grounds. Web sites aimed at people with problems that need fixing.

Why not take a few pictures of a typical job / problem solved for a particular brand and submit an article.

Follow it up with an advert on the web-site ad hey presto.

The guy who did my headlining now advertises on the Westerly Owners Ass. site. Mine was the first he did, now he gets plenty cos the headlining drops off the old ones - and they are all old now.

I'm glad to hear that there are Marine electricians around. You wouldn't know it living here though. Can anyone recommend a marine electrician in Gloucestershire ?
