Marine A Glaze

We've already bought this year's A Glaze - at the boat show

As I said earlier in this thread - I use A Glaze because it's easy enough for me to do it myself.
We've treated JW with A Glaze since she was new and it lasts all season in the heat of the Med sun - you can't say that about a wax finish.

We started using A Glaze when we had our old Sealine on the Hamble.
The T51 has exhaust relief outlets on the boat's rear quarters.
These outlets leave a sooty deposit every time you use the boat.
We waxed the boat during our first season but it was always difficult to clean the sooty sides.
Switching to A Glaze didn't stop the soot deposit but it made it MUCH easier to wash off.

Since then we've been using A Glaze each year

I don't find it that expensive either - if I were to wax, I'd need lots more help than I do with A Glaze.
So, taking labour charges into account, its cheaper for us.

"the pros and cons of using this product compared to 3M or are you aware of a better product to be used on a flybridge boat."

Anybody care to take a guess as to why this hideously over priced snake oil is so expensive compared to normal automotive products,is it merely because the word marine is on that tiny little bottle or purely because people lose all sense of value where boats are concerned.
God knows how light aircraft survive when merely smeared with a little Turtle wax once a year :)

I do wonder at times. Yesterday I had 3 tins of 3M ultra performance paste wax delivered direct from 3M for just over £30 all in, that should last me a year or two. It was recommended by Marine Reflections who must know what he's talking about, good enough recommendation for me.

3M is very well established in the surface finishing and protection world so you would imagine their technology works. Certainly to use their products a great. The finesse it finishing compound is lovely.

I don't think it's just the marine world where high prices are encountered. In the automotive world I could introduce you to some pots of wax at £1,500 or more a pop.

We use products from a number of different manufacturers, none of which are in the eye watering price range, merely the reassuringly priced to be effective bracket. I have a clear aim, to reduce the swirl marks you see on most boats - ours included. My theory is that by doing this you lessen the chance for dirt to key into the surface.

I totally hear your thoughts about ease of application with the A Glaze. If that means you do it yourself rather than employ someone then in effect the gear is free.

Henry :)

AAAAHH!! Don't say that. I've already got a shelf full of half-full bottles of the latest / best polishes going back donkey's years, where I've read wonderful things about each of them in turn, bought a bottle, tried it, found it's not noticeably different in performance from any of the others but smells a bit nicer or is easier to apply. Then before I've finished that bottle I've read about another one, and this one's definitely the best because of xyz (all valid reasons).

Just when I've said to myself, "Right, that's it, I'm buying no more polish until this lot's all used up", you go and post this... Which, BTW is far more tempting to me than A-Glaze (on a value basis at least).

No the Trent isn't the same as the Med. But I could say, the Med isn't the same as the Trent - it doesn't have rain, gritty rain, hail, snow, more gritty rain, more hail, etc etc. From the posts above and my own experience I can only say whilst the boat is in the UK at least I'll stick with good quality waxes for a few years yet (until the shelf is empty at any rate). The only thing is, the shelf might just get overfilled if you post things like this :D
