Well after being told that it's corroded on by people who serviced it, I've managed to get the leg off although bent the anti-cavitation plate in process and released top of pump housing though can't get it off completely, just lifted a couple of inches which gives access to passages. Fortunately, impeller looks OK. Any tips on cleaning out passages - I don't unfortunately have access to water under pressure. Pipe cleaner?

Lay the engine down, carrying handle uppermost. squirt about 40cc of Rydlyme into the tell tale and leave to soak for about 20 minutes, stand up, remove prop, start motor in a tank and run till warm (Add about 1/2ltr of Rydlyme) Repeat the running again when the head feels cold or until the mix is "Spent".

Now everybody will jump in here and say brick cleaner etc. does the job as well, so they might but this stuff is relatively safe for the engine and its operator.

If it's the same as mine, the tell tale on a Mariner 2 is only a relief hole in the back of the leg. Pouring anything into it (or forcing water into it) will just fill the leg with liquid and not get into the small bore holes in the head.

Mine has the tell tail pipe fitted, thought they were all the same.
