I can't imagine why the marina would ever want to move my boat, and I've never heard of them moving any boat. If they really need to, all they have to do is phone me up and I'll pop down and move it.
I was in Penzance Harbour, it was early morning and I was lying in bunk reading when I noticed the view through the hatch on the coach roof was behaving oddly.
I surmised that somehow we were drifting in the inner harbour. The obvious response was to leap from my bunk to the companion way. On opening the main hatch I discovered the harbour launch moving me gently across the harbour.
They explained that they had to reorganise the boats to make way for another larger vessel to enter. They did not want to disturb us so early so they just got on with it. What is remarkable is that they had moved the boat outside us and untied us with such care that I had heard nothing. They apologised for waking me, made me fast in my new location and bid me good day after tidying my warps perfectly.
Utterly charming.
In my marina all boat moves are done with the company rib. To drive a boat using it's own power would not be a practical proposition, sea cocks on or off, where are they? Fuel on or off, knowing what the engine cold start procedure is. Far to many variables to be overcome. So a lot easier to tow. We will tow up to 70' and 40 tons but obviously weather dependant. The rib has 2x 60hp outboards, perhaps not the best method of propulsion, the props are a bit small. I would prefer a pair of diesels on shafts.
