Marinas/moorings near Edinburgh

The choice is limited for long keelers because the tidal range can be 6m but the choice is:
Port Edgar Marina at South Queensferry, pontoon berths good Club keen on racing.
Granton Harbour which is at the North of the City. Two clubs have moorings here. The Forth Corinthian Yacht Club and the Royal Forth Yacht Club. Both are very friendly clubs but as I am a member of FCYC I am biased. I kept a 2m fin keeler at both Port Edgar and Granton and had no great problems except sinking the keel into the mud at both locations on Spring lows.
Port Edgar has fairly strong tidal streams (3knts at times) and Granton has a more open cruising area with some interesting islands to visit.
All the clubs have good web sites for contacts. Good Sailing

It depends what you classify as 'easy'. If you don't mind driving for 2.5 hours on a Friday night, I personally would keep it on the west coast. If you want to be right on the doorstep, Port Edgar's the place for you... (edit - or Granton!).

Port Edgar is probably the 'best' place if you value the easy access of a pontoon berth. It's also surprisingly not that much more expensive than a swinging mooring at Granton. It also has good public transport links to Edinburgh if you don't want to use a car to get to the boat.

Port Edgar is certainly the best for pontoon berths but if you want the boat out of the water over winter you need your own trailer or cradle. If you have a traler some of the Forth clubs have mooring areas where members can lay their own moorings. What does your boat draw?

A further word about Granton. The Royal Forth have a ferryman to take crew to and from the boat. The Corinthians being corinthian have their own self-drive ferry called "Dumbo". The Corinthians also rent a crane for the annual lift out so if low cost mooring' cheap cranage and low cost beer are important issues..........
