hi. does anyone know of a good marina in greece, preferably
within reach of athens, which dosent charge a fortune. I will be leaving my current berth in Lavrio this week so need to find something quick. I dont require all the bells and whistles of most marinas, just somewhere safe to use as a crusing base.

I am only familiar with the marinas on the Ionian side, not really close to Athens.
Lefkas and Corfu are quite good and very safe but fairly expensive. My boat is presently at Cleopatra Marina, Preveza: quite cheap but the boat must sit on hard ground and be launched every time you want to sail her.
I would recommend all three.

If you want to keep the cost down then there are reliable moorings at Porto Heli (60 miles SW of Athens, easy ferry link) or a haul out yard at Suzaki (using travelhoist, close to the Corinth canal, Athens side). PM me if interested and I will find the telephone numbers.
There are also moorings at Poros but I don't have any contact details.

thanks for the list. will check them out. I am leaving olympic
because they have just raised the charge for a lift out and three months ashore by 300euro in the last two weeks.

If you want \"Free\"..

...then Try- Trizonia in the Gulf. A passable bus ride from Athens but to the west so longish from E Venezelos Airport but an untended marina with good protection behind robust quays. Nice little village with basics and you can employ a guardian for very little.

There is also a yard across from Poros where a lot of Brits winter. Easy Flying Dolphin ride from Pireaus.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I would be interested in the details of the haul out yard but would'nt fancy the moorings as the boat would be left unattended for most of the year.

Re: If you want \"Free\"..

hi steve. i might try the yard across from Paros. I take it that its the same one thats mentioned in the pilot guide.

hi daniel thanks for your reply. I think for now i will try to stay a little closer to thecruising grounds of the cyclades.

The yard at Sousaki (37-55.02N 23-03E) Telephone numbers
6944 661683 and 27410 48427 I haven't stayed there but did visit by car when I was looking for a place. Seems OK, have large workshop and basic toilet facilities. Just a few waiting buoys. Owner seemed to be very helpful. Would need to hire a scooter or car if you planned to stay there for long.

The guy that runs the moorings at Porto Heli also has a boatyard. My boat was lifted out there over 2 winters. Good friendly crew. Phone Frank on 2754 052380

Someone else has mentioned the yards opposite Poros - One is Poros Marine, Telephone 2298023330

I've also used one of the 2 yards on the north of Aegina. The one I used is run by Jordan Kanonis Tel 29724151 He hauls out very efficiently with a trailer. There is another yard next door with a travelhoist but I don't know their number.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info Henry. Either of the liftout yards sound good and will give both a ring. Leaving Lavrio on fri. so hope i can get something to suit.
