Following on from Snooks little problem at Yarmouth.

Last week I was alongside in Falmouth. I explained to a friend over breakfast that I hated marinas but it was quiet at this time of year, no rafting and no screaming kids or truculent yoofs driving tenders about. Heaven in fact. Worth paying the 20 quid for a silent night.
It was dark by 8 and I retired at 9 with a good book and a milky drink. The 40 ft French yacht arrived at 10 just opposite me, 12 crew taking it in turns to jump onto the pontoon. The males in the party (sadly) stripped to their underwear to have a alfresco shower under the stand pipe whilst the girls hooted. They eventually drifted off in twos of threes to return at regular intervals throughout the night, energised. Two, being of a more philosophical turn of mind, debated the meaning of life till 3am in theatrical undertones.
Just when you think you have cracked it and nothing could go wrong.
As Snooks said, Why me?

Next time put the boats spotlight on them, effectively ''naming and shaming'' sort of works quite well in anchorages, especially if others who have been deprived of their sleep 'take up the candle' too !

Not too sure about the advice of shining a big light on a boat full of 12 drunken folk is the best way for a quiet night though. Could end up with some "banter" directed towards you. Either that it will encourage them to think they are on stage and you might see a show that's not quite your taste in musicals. The joys of boating eh!

We spent a couple of nights anchored upriver last month, then went into the VYH for a night so we could shop. Couldn't get away fast enough.

The very same. Most practical showers in the south of England

And the only marina in the southwest you'll get a berth for £20 a night.

The only problem it seems that you have people who turn up, who are enjoying themselves on holiday.

Damn their impudence!

You should have introduced yourself they'd no doubt have given you a drink and been very talkative and welcoming.

I just wanted to confirm that it was the VYH we were talking about here before commenting further.
Our visit in the week running up to last Xmas Eve was one of the worst experiences in my life, be it at sea or on land.
Its a long story that will take some time to explain properly, the happenings & events that led us having to put to sea at 16:00 on Christmas eve. The fact that a member of there staff called my mobile after we had had to put to sea & just laughed down the phone at me. Thats just a small part of the full story. Yes, that is the mentality.

If anyone would like the full story than I will take my time and do a write up in a Word doc then copy & paste it here.

YESS!! I am still up now at nearly 3am because some stuck up pr!ck$ are having a party on their mobo, in the tent thing whatever they call it, with the music up full, and ignoring all complaints even from security!

SAGA marinas

.
Sounds to me like SAGA should go into the marina business - skipper must be over 50 for the boat to be allowed in.

Milky drink at 9 o'clock indeed!

Methinks the reference to a milky drink might just be a self-deprecating tongue-in-cheek kind of comment...
