Well, if you think it's expensive having a boat in the UK, take pity on us folk in sunny SW Ireland.
Just had my boat antifouled, (one coat), a couple of very minor jobs and a lift and launch - €1,253.... The yard owner charges €55 per hour for (basic) labour.
Marina charges this year $3,750 for 10 metres. Next year? Who knows?
And as for chandlers, it's cheaper for me to order all of my stuff online from UK suppliers, even with delivery charges..
And as for the price of Guinness - the most expensive country in Europe except for Norway!!!

I take it with those prices your somewhere near Baltimore ?
much more reasonable here in Waterford /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Customer is king. Move elsewhere or if it suits your circumstance, do like I did and invest in a road trailer. I've had my boat at the side of the house for the last three winters - great comfort and time to tackle minor jobs oneself.

New yard has opened on Valentia Island (Fionan Murphy 087 2809861) - might be worth checking out.

Well let me tell you its the same in cork. I had my stanchions and ss lines tightened, pulpit realigned, and a small bit of a hull repair all for over 4grand all after a dismasting, all labour of course, i think they seen me coming, but the attitude was very much "well the insurance is paying for it" which i dont exactly consider acceptable. And this yard isnt in crosshaven!

Well, I suppose there's some comfort as it appears I'm not the only one who feels aggrieved. Problem is it seems that high prices are endemic right from Bantry thru to Cork. I daresay if you bad-mouth and name a particular yard you will have to find another equally high-priced one.
Down here there are applications to extend one marina in Kinsale and build others in Courtmacsherry and Schull. One application has failed in Baltimore (been ongoing for years). So until then I guess we will have to suffer - along with many visiting sailors from the UK and France. One fella I met in Kinsale (he was over from Wales) said he'd been charged the equivalent of £40 for a Kinsale berth, for a day. Can't be good for tourism - there weren't any this year and they'll be less next.

Hi I have found Rossbrin boatyard down by Schull reasonable, I bought over a Ruffian 23 that had broken it‘s mooring and sustained damage - though she wasn‘t technically holed. I did most of the work myself but found the staff very helpful. They knew I was on a tight budget and encouraged me to do as much as possible to keep the bills down. They also have just purchased a new remote control travel hoist and lift up to 17T and 7.5 ft draught and have also extended the yard the only thing is it is a tidal slip. See http://rossbrin-boatyard.com/

Yes. Slight difference between SW and SE.
