Marina Water Hose Etiquette

It's not expensive, but it's a bit of a pain having to dig it out of the locker, unroll the whole thing, connect it up, fill slowly (our previous on-board hose was a compact one of narrower diameter, though admittedly I've fixed that) then disconnect, roll up squeezing out the water, and put away again. Versus unhooking the provided hose from the stand and putting it in the hole.

Also, it seems to me that a hose which sits unused in a locker for weeks or months at a time is more likely to grow stuff on its inside than one which is regularly used and flushed through.

Each to their own Pete. I'd still rather use my own hose (flushed out) than something that could well have been in the water. I've even seen folks flushing holding tanks and toilets and then coiling them back up on the pontoon. Not for me thanks.

+1000...! Just how often has anyone become ill from a marina hose? We all flush plenty of water thru before filling our tanks and a manky rarely used hose left in cockpit locker is likely to be far worse. I was always happy to take the minuscule "risk". As I said on another thread, Haslar Marina are getting rid of the hoses too....grrrrrrrr!!!!!!

I prefer to use my own hose for filling the water tank on the boat.
Occasionally someone will leave a hose reel out and connected . And my neighbours dog seems to think the hose reel is an attractive thing to pee up.

Maybe it's dogs that should be banned from marinas.

I think antisocial ignorant folk who drop the hose in the water and then make no attempt to pick it up should be banned from marina's. Oh and folk who clean out their holding tanks and dip the end of the hose in the tank should be too.

And seagulls, and fish who seem happy to swim in their own pee, and while we're at it boat owners who flush their heads or get up and pee over the side of the boat in the night. We could then leave hoses trailing on the pontoon and in the water with impunity - oh hang on, lots of people do already...:)

Fitted an end to hose pipe after taking up berth 3 years ago.Still there, fits nicely into my freshwater deck filler and can instantly connect all accessories with the same fitting.
It would appear that the other half dozen boats within reach of the hose are perfectly happy as well.
It has gone "in" few times as well.
AFAIAA.All the boat owners at our end of the pontoon are alive and kicking.mind you one has not been down for a few weeks.
