We aren't really marina folk, we don't keep 'Cornsilk' in one and we tend to prefer the creeks overnight.
But we've just been out for a few days, planned to go to the Blackwater, but in view of the pants weather we stayed over here and pottered in the Medway. Stangate one night - lovely, met two other sets of friends by chance, rafted up on the biggest anchor and had a grand evening.
Weather a bit grim next day, so went to Hoo Marina. Basic sort of place but perfectly adequate, reasonable price, very friendly, and great club (Hoo Ness YC) next door.
Forecast awful for next few days so (deep breath) went to Chatham Marina, because lots to do nearby and good bus service to flash the OAP bus pass.
But the cost....
£3.15 per metre per night. Thats 28 quid a night for our humble 9m boat!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Is this verging on over-priced or am I being stingy?

Nope not stingy

Have found Chatam to be the one of the most expensive in the area

Last years visit was a marathon F8 battle in the Thames seen us arrive at midnight nackered and left at 8.30 next morning £30 lighter have to say i did feel a little ripped off. This year seen us weather bound in there for a week did give us lots of time to explore the navel dockyard which is well wort a visit, however prob wont be back there for a while.

I suspect Woolverstone will be the same - might as well use Royal Harwich as it is right next door and has good facilities and food. I went for the first time a few weeks ago and thought it was a nice small and friendly place. Same swell from passing traffic but lots of room to manoeuvre on the inside berths. Mind you, it was the heatwave weekend so I may have been a bit prejudiced!

Woolverstone's a bit less expensive, 2.65/m/night I think.
Having found that Chatham is the same price as the S.Coast I'm even more annoyed with myself for going there for 3 nights!
We've done an overnight at RHYC a couple of times - last time (maybe 3 years ago!) I found they were only slightly cheaper than Woolverstone, but it sounds like the differential has increased again.

The best has to be East Cowes!

Last year we were coming back through the Solent in August and Cowes Week was on! Never been to Cowes week and SWMBO wanted to go "shopping" so rang East Cowes to see if they had space.

"Oh yes" said man on phone, " we always keep some berths available for visitors - even in Cowes Week"

When I enquired what it would cost (glad i did!) for a 36 footer, he told me "£72 per night" BUT we couldn't come in till 11pm and would have to leave by 8am!!!, or incur another £72!

That wouls have made £144 for a LATE night and a day!
I then explained it seemed a little over the top and that I wouldn't bother! Went to Gosport for £34! that was bad enough but seemd reasonable when faced with Cowes!

Never been back!

So, by that calculation that's £52,560 they make for an annual berth.

Can't see what you are whinging about, do you begrudge them their profit! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I can only think of expletives now.

Or, buying a really big anchor and an all weather tender.
