Marina locks and hanging baskets

Before that there will be a layer of post WWII scrap to deal with, landing craft, dog boats, minesweepers. It was all so much more interesting...

Yes, designed by Noel Macklin/Fairmile.

Interesting family. From memory ( very dodgy) his father developed a 'system' that he put to good effect in Monte Carlo. Noel put together the Railton cars (had one once) and I think his son Lance might have instigated but was certainly involved in the big crash at Le Mans that killed a lot of people and resulted in MB withdrawing from motor racing.

His development of the prefabrication process (Fairmile Marine) for MGBs etc during WWII was groundbreaking.

There is a not very good book about him, lived somewhere between Cobham or Esher? A great story with lots of ups and downs.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Wombat 88,

I've seen the Napier Railton car several times at my old workplace Dunsfold, it's a total ear-splitting monster !

Now taken to shows, it was used for testing aircraft brake parachutes.

Great vehicle but Macklin was not involved.

The Railton road cars were based on Hudsons from the US with English bodies. Macklin got Reid Railton to put his name to them for a royalty.

An early version of celebrity branding like the mini you had when you were young, the one with Paddy Hopkirk go faster stripes!
