Marina Ibiza avoid like plague

I have just spent a night in Marina Ibiza, on a plus side the staff are very friendly and attentive.

However,

It smells like an open sewer every couple of hours. I noticed it last night and spoke to another captain he said it was someone pumping their tank, he was wrong unless of course everyone pumped their tanks last night, water is filthy....

And to boot, it was a 1000€ for the pleasure
 
Nop - that will be for 1 night - and probably plus water and elect and IVA

We went there in the middle of June to drop my daughter off for her flight home. SWMBO went ashore for some fresh rations and also enquired about staying the night - we were told 400 euros plus water elect and IVA - JUST ONE NIGHT IN JUNE.

So we left.

But whilst SWIMBO was away shopping, I noticed a water point just next to where JW was tied up - and my hose was within reach so I have to admit I pinched some water - made me feel a little better!!!
 
I guess they will charge what people are generally prepared to pay. It seems an incredibly high casual rate to me, but they must be getting it.
Even in this countries most popular marinas 45 - 50 GBP per night (casual) is regarded as heavy charging.
 
Yes in Aussie having a boat is standard.

Here in the med is becoming a plague.
For 2010 all marinas have double the price for July August month, which is a big shame and no one seems to bother. May be so far we deserve this...
 
The price was for one night, we arrived at 2000 and we had to vacate by 1200 following day.

Needless to say electric and water was to be added at another 30 euros.

At least my owners had a nice evening out which is all that matters..

Last night anchored off and it was wonderful. NW side of the Island, very pretty

Botafoch is (IMHO) the best located Marina in all of the Balearics. You're right next door to Ibiza town and a short crossing from Formentera. Not suprisingly everyone wants to go there, there really aren't any sensible options for anchoring nearby, and the Spanish being Spanish are quite happy to squeeze Johnny foreigner for every centimo they can. Worth it though if you've got the money.

I think thats right. We all grumble about Med marina charges particularly in July/Aug but we still pay them. The only way that is going to change is if we boaters vote with our feet and dont visit these places. Even in Croatia recently where many marinas we visited were not full, they were still charging €120+ per night for a 16m berth and you dont even get 32A electricity for that so you cant run aircon. More of us will have to get used to overnight anchoring!

Was there 2 weeks ago but I go to Ibiza Magna. I have a 46 foot sail boat and cost was Euros 200/night.

Regarding Ibiza... the city is 500 years old... the basic sewage system is... 500 years old too. The sh** smell is a no cost option... :D

Read the forecast and anchor; IMO best option in Ibiza.

YES WE SHOULD & YES WE CAN!
We boaters should start doing this more often, that is anchor....
 
definitely best to frequent places with lots of anchorages. Out here in the Ionian we leave base marina for a month's cruise and never go near a marina until we get back - not that they cost that much anyway. There are only a handful and I believe average 50 -60 euros July/August for 12 metres.
Ibiza can't be worth those prices. We only paid 40 euros in Monte Carlo 2 seasons ago (June)
any ideas of visiting Spain now on back burner

Dont write off Spain and the Balearics just because of Ibiza prices. Typical high season prices for a 15m berth in Majorca or Menorca are around €80-100 per night. Still high but not gobsmackingly so.
Ibiza/Formentera is a hugely popular cruising ground, rightly so because its beautiful, but there is a distinct lack of marina berths, particularly in season. They could probably double or triple the number berths in Jul/Aug and still fill them. Unlike France where there is some kind of local restriction on visitor berth prices, Balearic marinas can charge what they like so if demand outstrips supply, they push the prices up until the pips squeak. Ibiza Town is also a fun town so everybody want to berth there (its a bunfight). You'll find lower prices at marinas away from Ibiza Town like St Eulalia and San Antonio; thats if you can get in. There are loads of gorgeous anchorages around Ibiza/Formentera so avoiding marinas is relatively easy anyway

Most people I meet out here who have done Spain tell me about silly prices generally, and real availabilty problems and anchorages disappearing left right and centre in favour of buoyed (chargeable) moorings.
It might happen out here one day so intend to take it all in while its still here.I am sure you are right but its not for me. wild horses wouldn't get me out of the Eastern Med now.

Stories about anchorages disappearing are an exaggeration. Around Majorca, I know of 3 calas where buoys have been laid to protect the seabed from over anchoring but IMHO thats a good thing, not a bad thing. Its in everybody's interests to protect the environment and, in any case, the fact that boats are tied to buoys rather swinging to an anchor means that more boats can be moored in an anchorage, not less. Also, the charges for using the buoys are relatively cheap, certainly much cheaper than a marina. There are still dozens of other anchorages in which you can lie freely to anchor so there's no 'availability' problem with regard to anchoring, only marina spaces
