Marina Fees

Really like Bradwell, nice protected marina, with reasonable distances for stores and hospitality. A great place for a couple of days and often go there rather than into Brightlingsea or West Mersea when on way up to Orwell or Deben from the Medway. Looks as if there won’t be too much room for visitors though this summer.
Always thought that should we find ourselves living north of the Thames, then North Fambridge might be a runner.
I like the out of the way feel of the place and the Ferryman PH and I too believe the deals for berthing are very attractive and sounding better.
I don’t mind the run up and down the Crouch really. Quite often pop into Burnham for a day or two and like it there too, with an easy walk into the town for victuals and the Chinese there is great.

The fact the marina is full rarely means there isn't any room for visitors... They rely on berth holders being away for the weekend visiting the marinas the visitors have come from!

Well if anyone wants to really cut costs & go for a swinging mooring in April ,
Mooring
deep water for the sailing season, ideally max boats up to 35Ft
The Blackwater is an excellent sailing spot with loads of places to go as shown in the link

Price went up in 2020
I suspect those who received a rebate or reduction may pay it back with increases in price in the future .
It seems to me boat sales have been very positive in 2020 so marina spaces must be in high demand

When I was applying for insurance on a swinging mooring, Stone Point at St Lawrence was excluded from places I could get cover... The tide really rips through that area south of Thirslet

15 years ago that may have been true for quite a few insurance companies. I do not believe that is the case now. I personally have 3 boats with 2 companies who all consider the moorings as acceptable. I am not aware of any insurance refusals within the April/November season.
In the years that I was clerk, I upgraded the standard of moorings & the Fairway Committee now insist on a minimum standard. In addition we now have a system of 3 year recovery of moorings. I am not aware of any of the mooring holders now having problems.
There certainly has not been issues due to mooring failures as there was in the past. This was the problem insurers were reluctant to insure.
As for tidal flow. It is no different on most of the moorings than ,say, at Marconi, where many boats are anchored. In fact I would suggest that it is slightly less in the bay & we can currently put boats in a variety of positions to suit owners.

By the way it is THIRSTLET I was a bit surprised when the buoy was replaced 3 years ago to see the spelling. Either they got the spelling on the buoy wrong or the locals have not known where they have been sailing for the last 100 years.
I will let east coast sailors decide
Certainly confuses me o_O

Oh no. Don't let us do that debate again ? One thing is certain, you can't use all the letters. Too many letters. (it's 'Thurslet' init by the way - as in 'lust' which is Essex for 'list')
