ipswich is very pricy we think.
is it that dear all over ???

You could try the Tide Mill at Woodbridge.

All prices are shown on their website and I believe they are competitive. Staff very fair and friendly. On site facililities are good with the bonus that you are in Woodbridge town for everything else.

Of course, there are the tide limitations but I just treat that as part of the trip planning process.

There was a PBO which did a survey of all marina facilities and prices recently. I think it was the January or Feb 2009 one - I picked it up at the Boat Show at Excel. Someone might have a copy to hand (mine's at home, but I'm at work!), or you could buy it from PBO.

One of the major factors on the East Coast is the tide access. The cheaper ones can only be accessed close to HW, and in some you can be neaped for several days every month - Tide Mill would be an example of that, for a deep draft boat, anyway.

of course there isnt a Cartel but all the prices are similar.

marinas are "ports" and therefore exempted from the laws governing cartels - just like your solicitor is.

Swing mooring for the summer .. Tide Mill for the winter .. Bit of a sting in the tail this year though we overstayed by 4 days and got a bill for £70 .. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I used to be in the Tide Mill but it is restricting if you have a fin keeler.I draw nearly 1.7m.The second high tide of the day tends for some reason to be lower than the first & might make it difficult to get back in if you want to day sail. When I had a twin keeler it was esier.I am now at Levington(SYH) where I have access all the time. The difference in cost was circa £500 but well worth it for me.The prices in the Orwell marinas are not far apart except for Wolverstone which is a good bit more.

It may be relevant to mention you have a 57ft motor yacht and not a 23ft raggie here, it may also be important that you plan to live aboard, not all marinas allow this. Not stalking, just noting your last few short and blunt questions.

I rest my case!

No... not tongue in cheek at all.

I've had very good service from all the staff there, never overcharged and indeed they have gone out of their way to support me with some of my DIY maintainance projects.

As to the tide, I draw 4 foot so can have a four hour "top of the tide" sail at lunchtime springs and, logically a similar window for departing or returning. Admittedly the evening neaps narrows this down a bit.

There is no problem leaving Woodbridge on the rising tide and running straight down the river to cross the bar.

I have sailed from several marinas in the past, including those with full tide access. Of course, this would always be preferable and would never argue against that, but the Tidemill offers me a good balance of cost, facilities and location.

Perhaps I'm easily pleased but there you go....
