Port Dinorwic in its new ownership has become a popular place for both Annual Berth holders and Visitors.

However a price hike is in the offing next year.
£300 per metre pa including CHT harbour dues 5% discount if lump paid up front or 5% surcharge if paid monthly.

If I continue to be a berth Holder under my current terms this equates to a 8.5% price hike :disgust:

The marina is full to bursting. There are two new good eateries and other shore side operations that support and add value to being there.

They have plans to add Staff, Swinging moorings, Dinghy Storage, FREE water Taxi, and half tide pontoons.

All good news and aimed at bringing in even more visitors and cash to the owner.

The only problem is there has been no investment YET in any improved toilet or shower facility that is not shared with the many visitors to the Dock and the Cafe.

Hope we get something better than Portavadies Loos http://www.portavadie.com/ £259 per metre)

or just a Portacabin like Caernarfon?

The key is in your quote, full to bursting. Market economics suggest a price rise is justified.

Boaters are perceived as walking cash carriers who exist only to be drained by marina operators.

This could stop if only we could present a united front against this abuse of predominant position.

I used to love the UK as a place where I could practice this sport without it being as exclusive as it is in my country. Unfortunately in the last 10 years things have changed to a point that now it has become an exclusive sport here too.

Clarence Marina has had some good offers up to now.
But things are changing.
No longer the 13th month free if you pay 12 months in advance plus I understand the new toilet facilities have been put back.
I also understand they have been looking at berthing costs at the other two main Gosport marinas and decided to narrow the gap.

Bad news indeed. We like it there a lot and it's little more than an hour's drive from home but we already spend too much for the quite small amount of time we spend there. I don't think we would stay if the fees increased further.

You guys have many intangible benefits by being at PD. It's not far from your home. Probably the friendliest, most sociable fellow berthholders in the area. James (everyone should know and have access to a James). Total protection inside the lock. Nice eateries close by. How does it measure up to your work-life balance and quality of life aspirations?

If you procrastinate for too long you could receive the response "oh, sorry Steve, we didn't hear from you so we've given your berth to someone off the waiting list".

Why not ask the owner when the toilets / showers are due for refurbishment?

If you don't give the increase to PD, no doubt it'll go the government sooner or later :)

I've never visited, and I'm never likely to visit, but I have to say that if the place really is "full to bursting", then it's hardly surprising the prices are going up. Anyone running a marina as a business has a duty to shareholders to maximise income - that means pumping the price up until you have a few spare berths.

Holyhead is nice and I suspect will still do a deal!

No, it's not surprising and I don't blame the owner for responding to high demand. It is not a free market by any means, however: Gallows Point marina has been consistently denied planning permission due to a minority vested interest, despite overwhelming support from the local populace. So be it, but if that sort of interference in the free market takes place then it is reasonable to expect price controls to be imposed, IMO.

In fairness, if I was looking for a winter on the hard I would kind of hope that it did dry...

There is quite a lot of building work scheduled at Birdham this winter, and hard standing is at a premium and may be rationed to three months max, so if you are considering it, check with the office first. Castle Marinas have not announced their rates yet, but are aware that they are almost full, which could mean a rate rise at RCM and Birdham : (

I thought the Gallows Point development wasn't approved because it would contravene fishing laws?
